"Arun Khetarpal was born in Pune and came from a long line of armymen. He joined the National Defence Academy in 1967 and then the Indian Military Academy. During the operation, he, along with his troop was able to run over the enemy advance with his tanks and captured some of the enemy infantry and weapon crews at gunpoint. He continued his attack on the enemy stronghold even when he was alone but was killed when the Pakistani forces regrouped and counteratttacked. He was awarded the Param Vir Chakra posthumously."
